One of the many great films from this year producer Samuel Goldwyn’s first great success was somewhat overshadowed by GWTW. Emily Bronte’s classic story about tragic yet enduring love between Cathy (Merle Oberon) & Heathcliff (Laurence Olivier). Olivier and Geraldine Fitzgerald (Supporting) were nominated for Oscars as was director William Wyler. Gregg Toland did win for B&W Cinematography. David Niven Flora Robson Donald Crisp Leo G. Carroll and Cecil Kellaway provide support. #73 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies list. #15 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Love Stories list.
