Crowd The (1928)
An essential silent film about the life of a young man (James Murray) with ambition who becomes just another worker in a large office building in New York City. Then he finds courts and marries only to be disillusioned with married life too. However when he & his wife (Eleanor Boardman whose previous picture was Tell It to the Marines (1926) with Lon Chaney) have a child all seems well in their simple life … until tragedy strikes. Nominated for a Best Picture Oscar the film is also responsible for earning the (Oscar-less) great King Vidor his first of five Best Director nominations. Added to the National Film Registry in 1989.
