A true story of a baseball player Monty Stratton played by James Stewart who was inspired by his wife Ethel (June Allyson) to continue to try to play after losing a leg in a freak hunting accident. Frank Morgan and Agnes Moorehead as Ma Stratton also star; several Major League baseball players from the time also appear as themselves. Directed by (four time Best Director Oscar nominee) Sam Wood it won the Best Writing Motion Picture Story Academy Award for Douglas Morrow his only Oscar recognition; Guy Trosper assisted.
