Man Who Would Be King The (1975)
I thought I was the only one who really liked this film only to find out that it’s become somewhat of a cult classic. Outstanding performances by Sean Connery and Michael Caine; directed by John Huston who received an Oscar nomination for adapting Rudyard Kipling’s (played by Christopher Plummer) story. Connery and Caine are former British officers now searching for fortune. Their search leads them to a remote mountain top community run by religious leaders with a rich bounty who are initially hostile to the two. Seeming to defy death Connery is thought to be a god and assumes the power which ultimately corrupts him. Caine is initially his right hand man but urges Connery to leave with the riches before they are found out. Connery upsets the religious leaders when he insists on marrying a local girl with whom he’s become infatuated. There is trouble brewing! The story is told in retrospect with Caine relating it to Plummer.
