Field of Dreams (1989)
Field of Dreams (1989)
An Oscar nominated fantasy film with a message that hits a home run! Kevin Costner is Ray Kinsella an unsuccessful farmer who never really knew his baseball playing father. Now with wife Amy Madigan and a child of his own he seeks a connection to his past. He hears voices telling him to build a baseball diamond in the middle of his cornfield. These voices lead him to a famous yet reclusive writer (James Earl Jones) and a septuagenarian Doctor (Burt Lancaster his last film) as he searches for the answers to his questions. Also starring Timothy Busfield as Madigan’s businessman/banker brother who must foreclose on the young couple and their daughter. Ray Liotta stars as Shoeless Joe Jackson who along with other formerly disgraced ballplayers appears out of the magical field. The Best Picture of the Year IMO even though Driving Miss Daisy (1989) won the Oscar. Director Phil Alden Robinson’s screenplay based on W.P. Kinsella’s book "Shoeless Joe" as well as James Horner’s (Titanic (1997)) Score were also nominated. "If you build it he will come." is #39 on AFI’s 100 Greatest Movie Quotes list. #28 on AFI’s 100 Most Inspiring Movies list.
